Hypergammon – Each player begins with three checkers. The setup is one piece on each of the three most distant points of the board (the 22-point, the 23-point and the 24-point). Other rules are the same as regular backgammon.

Nackgammon – The game is similar to the regular version, except that the setup is different. You have two additional checkers on the opponent’s 2-point, which are taken from your mid-point (13-point), and 6-point.

The game tends to be longer than regular backgammon. This is because you have more checkers on you opponent’s home-board, so it is harder to bring them home.

Tapa – A very popular game in Bulgaria and Greece (where it is also known as ‘Plakoto’).

The final goal of the game is the same as the standard version; however there is no hitting in the game. If you make a move on a blot, land on top of it and the enemy checker can’t move as it is trapped, the opponent can’t land on a point with a trapped checker on it.

The setup is as follows: Each player starts the game with 15 checkers on the opponent’s home board.

Most of the other core-rules are the same.

Longgammon – The game is exactly the same as backgammon, the only difference is the setup. Each player has 15 checkers on his opponent’s one point (The same as Tapa).

Simple Steps of Play

· Situate yourself opposite your competitor bridging the board in-between

· Throw a single die to decide the first move. Remember, the one who scores higher will move first. If the dice lands on a checker or outside the board, then it is not counted. Throw the dice again if the dice shows the same point and continue until the difference is noticeable.

· How many moves can you make? This is determined by the throw of both dice. If both of the dice show the same number, then the player is entitled to double and move twice the roll. If you get two fours (in dice), you are allowed sixteen moves.

· Points are from 1 to 24, they start with your furthest upper right-hand corner.

· You may move the greater number, if you consider one of the two dice. You may move all the pips, as shown by the dice.

· Your moves must be in an anti-clockwise direction. Don’t forget to notice that your competitor is also following an anti-clockwise direction.

· Move your checkers as you wish, however remember your ultimate goal is to place all the checkers in the home board.

· You must move onto open points only. You may move checkers in pairs or single.

· If your checker lands on a blot, then the competitor’s checker is removed and placed in the bar.

· Once you have moved all of your checkers into the quadrant of the home board, start commencing bearing off.

· Remember, if you decline a double, you lose 1 point and declining a redouble will lose you 2 points.
