According to this story, John Elway threw one ball over 70 yards before it hit the receiver and that was in college.

John Elway, hands down the best "deep" arm.

In a 1985 playoff game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, John Elway was hobbled with a bad hamstring, and could barely walk. The Denver Broncos had the ball around their 25 yard line and Elway dropped back and heaved a pass from inside his 20 yardline over 80 yards.
The pass went incomplete, but the dude could not hardly even walk and he still threw it over 80 yards in the air.

It's very difficult to say, but everybody's naming superstars, former mvp's, etc....but, I think Jeff George would have won that competition.

Culpooper, Fart, and JoMama are overrated.
If I had to pick just one in terms of arm strength alone, it would be Jeff George. But Elway would be bringing up the rear.

Elway or Cunningham, FYI Sonny Jurgenson could submarine throw 50 yards, (underhand)

Yes this is a good question and as Lyle G said for all of you that are throwing hall of famers out there are wrong. believe it or not but Jeff George has thrown the length of the field several times in his career. Then runner up would have to be Warren Moon. But the longest pass that was caught according to the NFL hall of fame before the run was Don Meredith to Hayes approx. 83 yds i believe; of course you could go to the hall of fame site and check it out.

As of right now, I think it's Randall Cunningham. I think we'll see Jamarcus Russel assume that mantel this year. You can kick Oakland to the 20, and Jamarcus will be able to put a hail Mary into the endzone.
